You can specify how each layer of a compound wall will finish at the end. When the end of the wall is not connected to another wall and it has several layers, you can modify the layer endings separately.
Options define how finishes return around wall ends.
Wall Layer Wrapping at Free Wall Ends
This dialog controls whether finish layers (plaster, render, cladding) wrap around the edge of a wall when it stops freely. Wrapping ensures that insulation or cores are not left exposed in plans, sections, or 3D.
General Options (top of dialog)
| Field | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Left side / Right side checkboxes | Defines whether wrapping is applied at the left and/or right free ends of the wall. | You can enable one side only or both. |
| Number of wall layers to affect (On inner side) | Specifies how many interior layers should wrap at the free end. | Example: “1” means only the interior finish wraps; “2” would include finish + insulation. |
| Number of wall layers to affect (On outer side) | Specifies how many exterior layers wrap at the free end. | Example: “1” = just the outer render; “3” could wrap all exterior build-up layers. |
Layer Wrapping List (middle table)
The dialog displays two sections: On inner side and On outer side.
| Column | Description | Example from screenshot |
|---|---|---|
| No. | Order of wrapping layers (1 = first layer to wrap). | 1 |
| Thickness of layer | Defines how much of the layer returns. Options: Full thickness, or custom. | “Wall layer thickness” (full). |
| End of revealed layer | Defines the reference side from the current layer or from the other side of the wall. | “From the current layer” (default). |
| Number of wall layers to cross | Defines how many layers are included in the return. | 1 (just the selected finish layer). |
| Phase | Indicates whether the wrapping belongs to an Existing or Demolished phase. | “Existing” (all layers in screenshot). |
Preview Panel (right side)

Shows a schematic view of the wall section.
-
Finish Face: Exterior and Finish Face: Interior labels indicate which side of the wall the return belongs to.
-
The pink shading highlights wrapped layers.
Practical Use
-
Interior plaster return → Wrap 1 layer on the inner side.
-
Exterior render return → Wrap 1 layer on the outer side.
-
Cladding or insulation return → Increase the number of layers affected (e.g., 2 or 3).
-
Asymmetric wrapping → Different values for inside vs. outside (e.g., inside plaster wraps, outside brick stops).
Example:
- Right click on the wall and select the Wall layer wrapping option.
- In the appearing dialog select which direction you want to wrap the layers and how many layers in the drop down menu.
- After you selected how many layers should be affected by the layer wrapping, you can set the properties of each layer wrapping. In the preview image you can see the result.
-
Thickness of layer: you can use the original thicknes, set a value or exclude the layer from wrapping.
- End of revealed layer: you can mirror the reference side of the wall and make it easier to get the desired result in case the wall has lots of layers.
- Number of wall layers to cross: set number of layers to cross for each layer separately.
