IES files are light profiles that describes the distribution of light from a point source.
It helps to achieve a realistic light emission pattern.
These profiles are specified by light manufacturers and can be downloaded mostly for free.
There are lots of resources to download IES light profiles freely.
One of these is the ARCHLine Warehouse website IES Library where you can download many IES files.

Why use IES lamps?
IES lights make the rendered images more realistic.
If you want to simulate exact lighting effects that you can see in real life you need to use IES lights.
ARCHLine.XP 2024 automatically loads the intensity specified in the IES file. IES files are downloadable from ARCHLine.XP 3D Warehouse. You can save IES files as part of the project or another category available for all projects.

Assign the IES Profile to a light source
You can assign the IES Profile as a new light source or you can replace an existing one.
After selecting a New Light, choose IES Profile from the IES dropdown list
