A project template specifies a starting environment for a new project. The project template contains the custom default settings for the project and determines the default units of measurement, styles, layers, floor and building structure and may more. If the factory default template isn’t quite to your working method, you can modify according to your own needs and save it as a custom template.

Create a template
If you always want to use the same settings when creating a new project, you can save these changes to a new template to make it easier to create new projects.
The list of templates is available on the New Project dialog. The list includes the Revit default templates and your custom templates.
To create a new template, follow these steps:
- Open a new or existing project.
- Make the changes to the project settings that you want to save with the template.
- Templates include all settings for unit of measure, style, building levels structure, and layer dialog, etc.
- The template does not contain floor plan geometry or 3D model, but Plot Layout view keeps the sheets and stamps.
- Choose File > Export > Project template.
- Navigate to the location where you want to save the template.
- Give the template a name and click Save.
Open a project template
- Select New Project and click on New project from template to select a project template. The default list of templates is available on the ARCHlineXP Draw\2021\ProjectTemplates folder.
- Select the file with the .pte extension and open it.
- When ARCHLine.XP reads the .pte file a dump file is generated. Dump file stores information about the content of .pte and displays in a Notepad application. This is a user-friendly method to know what layers, floor levels, styles, etc, are imported from this template file.
