Thermal bridges caused by the presence of columns and beams can significantly affect the thermal insulation of the building envelope. The energy/thermal calculation of a building often requires the placement of a thermal insulation layer upon the external surfaces of the structural elements like columns and beams.
For columns embedded in the wall, the insulation layer appears only on the parts outside the wall layers, ensuring accurate representation on the floor plan and in 3D views. The insulation is therefore always displayed as it is in reality, even in the case of complex structural connections.
